The brand was launched in 1960 when they succeeded in commercializing sandals for the first time, based on the footbed (Einlagen) that had been in production since 1896. Birkenstock's Ramses have an upper cut a little wider than the popular classic thong sandal Gizeh. This upper is made from Birko-Flor, a synthetic material that is gentle on the skin and highly durable.
